Heriot-Watt University is the eighth oldest higher education institution in the UK. The University originated as the School of Arts of Edinburgh in 1821, becoming Heriot-Watt University in 1966. We are an exciting university offering a welcoming and friendly environment. We are renowned for innovative education and enterprise and we are one of the leading UK universities for practical research in business and industry. We have four student campuses: three in Scotland and a campus in Dubai. The name commemorates George Heriot - the 16th century financier to King James, and James Watt - the great 18th century inventor and engineer.
