The University is regularly praised for innovation across its broad portfolio of courses, from being awarded Skillset Media Academy status for its media provision to being one of only 10 UK universities to have Grade 1 Ofsted rating for both primary and secondary teacher training.
Birmingham City University offers a learning experience that is very much practice-based to give graduating students the edge in a future career - for example, Law students do ‘pro bono' (voluntary) work on Death Row cases and broadcast students create their own radio show.

To help deliver this mission there has recently be
en major expansion of facilities, for example the creation of the Seacole Building at the University's modern Edgbaston campus, a new facility which is part of the Faculty of Health and houses state-of-the-art learning equipment such as ‘virtual' hospital wards, realistic simulation dummies and a mock operating theatre.
While £7million sport facilities - comprising a sports hall and 80-station fitness suite - at the City North Campus in Perry Barr is due to open this September, with a further £150million to be invested to create a major city centre campus in the Eastside district. This state-of-the-art campus will feature television studios, a library, concert and recitals halls, performance theatre, lecture theatres and a learning resource centre. Incorporated inside the iconic campus buildings will be cutting edge technologies to enhance the learning experience and support business engagement.
